Step-by-step installation

Installation in the graphical interface

1. Close all Office programs if they were previously installed.
2. Open the downloaded installation file .pkg.
3. Click Continue and accept the licence terms.
4. Select the system disk and start the installation.
5. Enter the macOS administrator password if the system requests it.
6. After completion, open Word or Excel from Launchpad.
7. Wait for the start screen and proceed to activation.

Installation from the Terminal

If you want to perform the installation manually from the command line, use:

sudo installer -pkg ~/Downloads/Microsoft_365_and_Office_Installer.pkg -target /

If the file has a different name, provide the correct path to the downloaded .pkg installer.

Activation

In Office 2021 Standard Mac, the activation method depends on the licence channel. You will most commonly encounter two methods: activation through a Microsoft account or company licence activation through a serializer package.

GUI Activation

1. Open Word.
2. Click Start or Get Started.
3. If the licence is associated with a Microsoft account, log in to the relevant account.
4. If KluczeSoft provided an activation package for the Standard/LTSC version, run the additional file Microsoft_Office_LTSC_2021_VL_Serializer.pkg.
5. Close Office applications and restart them.

CMD Activation

The most common scenario for Office Standard Mac is to install the serializer package from the Terminal:

sudo installer -pkg ~/Downloads/Microsoft_Office_LTSC_2021_VL_Serializer.pkg -target /

After completion, close all Office applications and restart Word or Excel.

If KluczeSoft provided a separate activation instruction for a specific licence channel, follow that procedure. In macOS, ospp.vbs is not used, as it applies to Office on Windows.

Activation Verification

You can easily check the activation status in the application:

• open Word,
• select Word > About Word,
• check if the application shows an active licence and full functionality.

You can also perform a check in the Terminal:

ls -l /Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.licensingV2.plist

and:

defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.licensingV2

If the licence file exists and Office runs without an activation screen, the package has usually been activated correctly.

Troubleshooting

“Unsupported operating system”

This message means that you are using an outdated version of macOS or you have downloaded the wrong installer. Solution: update your system or download a compatible installer for a supported macOS version.

“Action Required: We’ve detected a one-time purchase license”

This is a typical issue after installing Office from the Mac App Store. The store version does not work properly with the perpetual Office 2021 license. Uninstall the applications from the App Store and install Office from the official Microsoft installer.

“No license found”

Most often, this means logging in to the wrong Microsoft account or a missing properly installed serializer. Log out, log in again to the correct account, or run the VL Serializer package again.

Office keeps asking for login / “Authentication Expired”

The problem usually results from damaged entries in the keychain or moving the Office application out of the Applications folder. Place Office in the default location, clear old entries from Keychain Access, and run the application again.

“Install Failed”

Most often, the downloaded .pkg file is damaged or incomplete. Delete the installer, download it again, preferably in Safari, and try again.

Installer stops at “Verifying”

A common case in macOS when there are problems with Gatekeeper or an incomplete file download. Wait a moment, restart your computer, and repeat the installation. If the problem returns, download the installer again.

“Telephone activation is no longer supported for your product”

This message may appear with some older or incorrectly recognized activation paths. For Office 2021 for Mac, it's best to return to online activation or contact Microsoft support: 00 800 121 1654.

Version Comparison

If you are looking for the lowest purchase cost, Office 2019 Standard Mac is still attractively priced, but it has already ended support.
