An attempt to activate a computer using a volume license key (Volume License) on a device that is not intended for such activation, or the computer does not have an OEM or MAK BIOS.

  • During activation, the message appears: "Cannot activate using a volume license key"
  • Error code: 0xC004F035
  • English version: "The computer could not be activated with a Volume license product key"

Step-by-step solution

Use a MAK key instead of a KMS key. Or configure a proper KMS environment. Make sure you are using the correct type of key for your Windows version.

Solution for Windows Server

  1. Open PowerShell as administrator
  2. Enter the key:
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
  1. Activate:
slmgr /ato
  1. Check the status:
slmgr /xpr

Verification

After performing the steps, check if the activation was successful:

  • Windows: Settings → System → Activation → should be "Windows is activated"
