How to install Microsoft Office 2016 Professional Plus — complete instructions

Before You Start

Microsoft Office 2016 Professional Plus is the most comprehensive edition of the Office 2016 package for Windows. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote, and Skype for Business. This is a solution for businesses and demanding users who want a one-time purchase instead of a Microsoft 365 subscription.

Important information about support: basic support for Office 2016 ended on October 13, 2020, and extended security support ended on October 14, 2025. This means that the package can still work correctly, but it no longer receives new security updates from Microsoft.

At KluczeSoft, the customer receives a digital delivery: a license key, installation instructions, a download link, and a VAT invoice. Depending on the medium and installation source, you can encounter two deployment variants: the classic MSI installer or Click-to-Run.

System Requirements

Downloading the Installer

It is safest to use the installer indicated in the message from KluczeSoft or from official Microsoft tools. Before downloading, it's worth determining whether the purchased license is to be installed as MSI or Click-to-Run.

MSI is a traditional installation model, common in corporate environments and older deployments. Click-to-Run downloads components streaming and usually installs faster. The most important thing is not to mix different Office technologies on the same computer without uninstalling the previous version first.

Step-by-Step Installation

MSI Installation

1. Download the image or installer indicated by KluczeSoft.
2. Unpack the files or mount the ISO image.
3. Run setup.exe as an administrator.
4. Choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version compatible with your system and COM add-ins you use.
5. Wait for the installation to complete and run any application from the package, for example, Word.

Click-to-Run Installation

1. Download the installer provided after purchase.
2. Close all Office programs and Outlook.
3. Run the installation file as an administrator.
4. Wait for the components to be downloaded and installed.
5. After completion, open Word or Excel and proceed to activation.

Activation

Graphical Activation

1. Open Word or Excel.
2. Go to File > Account.
3. Select Change product key.
4. Enter the purchased key and confirm.
5. If online activation fails, select phone activation.

For Office, we use ospp.vbs /inpkey, and then ospp.vbs /act.

Activation Verification

The license status can be checked in the program interface: File > Account. A properly activated package usually displays information about the activated product.

You can also use the command:

cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

In the result, look for information about the license status, the last 5 characters of the key, and a confirmation message of activation.

Troubleshooting

Error: ospp.vbs not found

Most often, this means a wrong path. Check if Office is in Program Files or Program Files (x86) and use the correct Office16 directory.

Error: 0xC004F074

Usually appears with an incorrect key type or activation service issue. Enter the key again with the /inpkey command, run /act, and if it still doesn't work, choose phone activation.

Message: Unlicensed Product or Produkt bez licencji

Often, closing all Office applications, restarting the computer, and performing activation with administrator privileges helps. It's also worth removing older, incompatible versions of the package.

Installation error 30125-1011 or similar

Most often, the cause is a conflict with a previous Office installation or damaged Click-to-Run components. Uninstall the previous Office, restart the computer, and try again.

Cannot activate because there is another version of Office on the computer

On one computer, you should not mix MSI and Click-to-Run within the same package generation. Remove the previous version and then install Office 2016 Professional Plus.

Activation server connection error

Check the system date and time, internet connection, firewall, and antivirus program. In company networks, the problem is often also a proxy or DNS filtering.

Key rejected as invalid

Make sure you are entering the key for the correct product. The Office key activates Office, not Windows. For Office, use ospp.vbs, for Windows slmgr.vbs, and CAL products are not installation software, but a license document.
