Assigning CAL Licenses to Users
CAL (Client Access License) licenses are not technically activated in the system, but documented in the organization. After purchasing 5 User CALs, you should assign them to specific users and keep a record (e.g., in Active Directory).
Note: If you use remote services (RDS), you must also install and activate RDS CALs in the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.
Post-Installation Configuration
After activating the system, it is recommended to perform basic configuration:
- System update: Open Windows Update and install all available updates.
- Server name change: In Server Manager > Local Server, click the computer name and change it to comply with the company's policy.
- Joining a domain: If you use Active Directory, join the server to the domain.
- Network configuration: Set a static IP address, mask, gateway, and DNS in Network and Sharing Center.
- Installing roles and features: Use Server Manager > Add roles and features to install roles (e.g., Hyper-V, File Server).
- Creating users: Add users in Active Directory Users and Computers or locally.
